DECISION GUIDE / SOURCE-CHECKED

ArtCraft vs Adobe, by task.

A familiar interface does not make two applications interchangeable. The useful comparison is the work you need to finish, the files you must hand over, and each app's current development stage.

THE TASK MAP

Match the job before comparing the apps.

The matches show intended work areas, not feature parity. Development labels come from the official Crafting Apps directory.

A PRACTICAL DECISION

Should you switch today?

For a casual or reversible project, testing a free Crafting App alongside your current editor can be useful. For a client file that must survive round trips with an Adobe workflow, validate the exact document and operation before depending on the alternative.

PhotoCraft is the most relevant place to begin for layered image editing. Its maintainers explicitly warn that it is still early alpha. The other apps have different statuses and should not inherit PhotoCraft's capabilities by association.

Keep an untouched source file. Open a copy, make one representative edit, save to a new file, and check the result in the application your collaborator will actually use.
